I laid asleep in the middle of the day. A slumber so good that I hadn't experienced in a good while. The night before saw me with two others whose names I don't remember. We were engaged in activies most lascivious. I don't remember when exactly they left my house. To my knowledge it could've been after I already fell asleep. Despite the many hours of rest I had already accumulated the noise outside cut through my daze more efficiently than any alarm clock.
I stirred awake, groggily stumbling for my mobile phone. Once I found the device in the dark I checked the time on the display. I was disappointed to see it was a few hours past noon. With my excuse to be upset proven non-existent I clambered out of bed. I threw on the first set of clothes I could grab. I patted down my hair before waltzing out of my front door to see what the commotion was. Right next door I spied a moving truck. I slowly walked up to the fence that seperates the properties. I watched as movers carried a few pieces of furniture into the house. They weren't particularly buff but I was able to glance how their clothes tightened around their muscles. I started to slowly wiggle my hips like I was about to pounce. After a few moments my attention was interupted by a voice.
"Hi! Are you our new neighbor?" the voice asked. I was so entranced with watching the workers that I jumped at the question. I quickly moved my head to face the source of the sound. It was a cream colored fennec fox with purple tips to her white hair. Her eyes were an icy light blue and she gave me the most innocent look. Obviously she had no idea I was thinking about what an amazing time I could have with the movers she hired.
"Oh! Is that moving truck yours?" I questioned despite knowing the answer. I used this time to try and regain my composure back from my daydreams.
"Yeppers!" She nodded, "My husband and I just moved into the neighborhood!" I was able to see the excitement in her body; she was practically shaking. I quickly scanned the area around the truck and saw a masculine figure wearing a letterman jacket. A deer with ginger hair and vibrant green eyes. For a moment I could've sworn his eyes were glowing.
"Is that the mister of the house?" I asked whilst looking at the deer. She turned her head to check before turning back and nodding.
"That's him, my sweet Donovan," she said with such an adoring tone in her voice. "Oh! I'm Elizabeth Meadows by the way! You can call me Izzy though. I can't believe I forgot to introduce myself," she said with a giggle.
"I'm Genesis. I never thought anyone was gonna live in that place. It stood empty for a while now. Did you two checked the house out before moving in?" By the time I was done asking my question I noticed Donovan walking over. His presence was intimidating even though he was a bit shorter than me. He just stood silently as Elizabeth began to speak.
"The house was actually a bit of a gift. I hate saying that but it's the truth. Donovan and I got married not long ago," she said while showing off the ring on her left hand. "My parents didn't like the idea of us living in some apartment. So we agreed on this house. It was on the cheaper side, but my parents didn't like that how far away it was. I had to talk them into the idea." I had raised an eyebrow when she mentioned the disagreement in location. To my surpise Donovan finally spoke in order to give me an answer.
"We're originally from Oakland. It's a decent drive from here." The moment he spoke I felt less intimidated and more intrigued. His voice carried a pain that you wouldn't guess from his body. He looked like his only leisurely activity was working out. I was confused how anyone could've even hurt this man when he was looked like he could easily kick my ass. Thinking about Donovan kicking my ass gave my mind pause, but I recovered quick enough to not leave too much dead air in the conversation.
"Oakland, huh?" I blurted out as just filler before clearing my throat. "I can't say I've been there before. Is it nice?"
"I never want to go back," Donovan said without missing a beat.
"Don!" Elizabeth gave him a gentle swat on his shoulder. "So what, are you saying you're fine with hosting all the holiday parties from now on?"
"If it means never going back to that place, yeah sure," Donovan said with his dire attitude softening quickly. I could tell right away how important she was to him. The movers whistled to get our attention. We all looked their way before Donovan slowly made his way over there.
"Guess they're all done," Elizabeth said with a chuckle. "I should probably go start unpacking and stuff. On one hand I'm happy I'm gonna be able to decorate a whole house instead of just one room. On the other hand, woof, that's gonna be a lot of work." She gave me a look like she was expecting me to say something. I blinked at her before my brain finally formulated a sentence worth saying.
"You gotta find a healthy balance." I turned back to look at my place. I thought about how little decorations occupied most rooms. I quickly turned back and continued, "After you're done I'd love to see. I could certainly use someone to steal ideas from." She laughed and nodded.
"Of course, you're welcomed over any time. You seem really chill." My mind lit up upon hearing that. It finally hit me all at once. A couple around my age just moved into the house right next door. They were both interesting and attractive. With how suddenly I was processing this information I blurted something out that I typically wouldn't in this situation.
"I'd certainly love to chill with you," I said with my voice dropping to a seductive tone. My eyes gave her that sultry look and I started wagging my tail again. It was all involuntary. I could tell Elizabeth instantly knew what was going on. Her whole demeanor changed, but not in a way I expected.
"Oh I bet you would," she snickered before booping my nose. It seemed like she was returning my flirtatous nature. "but I'm a married woman. I'm off the market, hot shot."
"Then get Donovan involved. The more the marrier." Elizabeth looked caught off guard when I said that. It was like she expected me to say anything except that. She stood there with a contemplative expression. This gave me time to come to terms with what I had just said. I straighted up in embaressment and apologized, "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me." Elizabeth however still looked lost in thought. "Uh... Izzy?" That snapped her out of it and she looked at me.
"I'll have to get back to you on that." I was stunned to hear her say that. I began to try and run back my comments but she stopped me. "We'll talk to you later, Genesis," she said still mulling over what I suggested. She gave me a wave and started walking towards the house. Donovan greeted her at the door, they kissed, and then they vanished into the building as the front door closed. I wouldn't usually feel bad about putting the moves on someone I just met but this wasn't the time or place for it. I slinked back into my place feeling awkward about the whole thing. I had no idea that this interaction would lead me into a very fruitful and interesting relationship with the Meadows.
