(cw: parental abuse, death of a loved one)

Donovan is a trans man who grew up in Oakland but moved out before its massive change into the spawling metropolis it is now. Early on in Donovan's childhood his mother passed away, leaving him with just his father. His father would slowly become abusive in the wake of her death. Forming in just neglect in the early years but as Donovan grew older it would turn more direct. Donovan would do anything to stay out of the house. It was during one of these days out of the house he would end up meeting Jericho. The two became fast friends as it seemed like they both had no other friends.

Once high school started Donovan would join the school's baseball team as a means of escape from his household. Jericho would end up joining the team as well in order to spend more time with Donovan. Throughout high school a rift would slowly form between Donovan and Jericho as Jericho would find success on the baseball field. Jericho was spending more time with new friends and ignoring Donovan. Alone once again and with the abuse from his dad getting worse, evolving into occasional physical violence, Donovan would beg the team coach to allow him to use the school gym after hours. Recluntantly the coach agreed and Donovan found himself being able to work through his troubles via working out.

Donovan would slowly start improve his batting average, much to Jericho's chagrin. Tensions would often boil over between the two former friends. It would most often manifest with insults being slung between them. Rarely during practice they would get in each other's face with the air of potentional violence. The rest of the team and the coach would make sure to split them up before anything could happen. During junior year Donovan would overtake Jericho as the team's best player at bat. This would cause attention to be put on Donovan for the first time. Despite this Donovan kept his distance from others, not wanting to repeat what happened with Jericho. This would change once one of his classmates, Elizabeth "Izzy" Meadows became interested in him.

Her persistence eventually led to Donovan and her start dating. After being able to push past his defensive nature, he found the companionship almost overwhelming but in a good way. If he wasn't at the school gym, he was with Izzy. No matter how bad things got with Jericho or his father he could find comfort with Izzy. This bond would be tested during their senior year. One day at practice when the coach had to leave for a while due to some business with the principle tensions broke once again. During Jericho's regular insults he would cross a line by insulting Izzy. This caused Donovan to push Jericho to the ground, leading to a fight between the two. Since the coach wasn't there instead of breaking up the fight, the team egged them on. After some clumsy highschool fighting Donovan would grab Jericho's left arm, stopping a punch and end up breaking his arm thus ending the fight. The team would scramble to pull him away from Jericho after this.

The coach would return right after and see the immediate aftermath of the fight. The coach depsite seeming sympathetic to Donovan's place in all this still had to remove him from the team. Both Donovan and Jericho's parents were called to pick them up. Donovan's father was furious and as soon as they returned home he began to push Dovovan against the wall. After a couple of blows to Donovan's body, he would end up fighting back. He pushed his father off him and punched him square in the face, breaking his nose. This would cause his father to stumble back and fall through the living room table. As he laid ontop of the now broken table, he looked up at Donovan as he grabbed the keys to his car. Donovan would look back at him and very coldly state, "I'm leaving... follow me and I'll make sure to do worse next time." He slammed the door shut after seeing his father for the last time.

He drove the car to Izzy's house. A shocked Izzy found Donovan at the door, beaten and bruised from two fights that day. After explaining everything to the Meadows family Izzy's parents, after determined pleading from Izzy were able to set up a room for Donovan with a family friend. This was only after making him promise to finish school and help around the house. Donovan easily agreed and kept to his word. The rest of school was uneventful for Donovan. After graduation and with her family's blessing, Donovan and Izzy moved to a different city together. They would eventually get married and Donovan would take her surname. Donovan would become a baseball coach himself, while Izzy worked from home and sold homemade crafts in her free time. They had a happy and loving marriage. They found friends in their local community. Not a day would go by where they weren't madly in love with each other. After a little over a decade tragedy would strike in the form of Izzy's death at the hands of a viral illness.

Donovan was distraught and became almost self destructive after losing Izzy. If it wasn't for his support group of friends he would've spiralled out of control. With much care and patience he was able to grieve in a healthy manner. A year after Izzy's death, Donovan would recieve a call about something to do with Izzy's last will and testament. Izzy would have a request for Donovan postmortem. She wants Donovan to assemble some of her closest friends in order for her to confess secrets and regrets she had in regards to not only them, but also him. They lived in Oakland, which meant that he would have to return to that city he desperately wanted to leave, but he would do anything for Izzy... even in death.
